Breeder Referral Program - Policy and Procedures

  1. Enrollment in the Breeder Referral Program is open to breeders who have been a PWDCA member for at least one full year. Enrollment requires reading, agreeing to and signing the Breeder Agreement and paying an annual enrollment fee of $50.00. The check is made payable to the PWDCA, Inc. and is sent to the Breeder Referral Services Coordinator together with a signed copy of the Breeder Agreement prior to March 1. A subscription to the Breeder Referral Participants List is for the twelve month period from March 1 through the last day of February. Those joining the list after March 1 must still pay the full $50.00 listing fee.
  2. The Breeder Referral Participants List is compiled alphabetically and the enrolled breeder's name, address and phone number are listed. This list is included with the general information packet sent to all who request information on our breed from the Breeder Referral Services Coordinator. It is also available “Online” on the PWDCA Website.
  3. The Breeder Referral Services Coordinator and the PWD Health Administrator maintain ongoing communications in order to coordinate the aspects of the PWDCA Breeder Referral Program which relate to assuring that the required health statistics are on file and current.
  4. Only those in the Breeder Referral Program are eligible to participate in the Breeders with Puppies/Dogs List.
  5. All Breeder Referral Participants who are expecting a litter or have a litter on the ground or have an older dog available may enroll one litter per calendar year without charge in the Breeders With Puppies/Dogs List. On a co-bred litter, all member-breeders listed must be subscribers to the Breeder Referral Program. The procedure for this listing is as follows:
    • Complete the required Litter Listing Form found on the PWDCA website at www.pwdca.org . Submit it electronically or print it and fax or mail it to the Breeder Referral Services Coordinator.
    • Make certain that all required Health Certifications and Health Forms are complete, current, and on file with the PWD Health Administrator for both sire and dam PRIOR TO submitting the Litter Listing Form to the Breeder Referral Services Coordinator. These Health Certifications must include OFA hips, individual GM-l, individual Optigen test results, and a valid CERF.
    • The litter listing period is: four weeks before the expected whelping date, plus ten weeks after actual whelping. The listed breeder may request up to four additional weeks, if necessary, from the Breeder Referral Services Coordinator. During the entire listing period the CERFs on both sire and dam must be current. (A CERF is valid for only one year from the date of the examination.) If the CERF date expires for either dog or dam during this period, the litter listing will be deleted. In the unusual event that either sire or dam has died, this requirement will be waived and the litter will carry a notation to that effect.
    • For litters which are the product of frozen semen: (a) if the sire is alive, the CERF must be current throughout the litter listing period; (b) if the semen is from a deceased sire, the sire’s CERF exam status must have been current at the time of his death.
    • Second and subsequent litters may be listed for a fee of $15 each. Make the check payable to PWDCA, Inc. and send to the Breeder Referral Services Coordinator.
    • To list an older dog, its name, date of birth, and the names of sire and dam must be supplied, together with a $15 check made payable to PWDCA, Inc., for each older dog being listed. The health status of the older dog must be cited in the listing.
  6. If the breeder is not in compliance with all of the components of the signed Breeder Agreement then, upon notification from the Breeder Referral Services Coordinator, the breeder will be deleted from the Breeder Referral Participants List and the Breeders With Puppies/Dogs List.
  7. After the litter is born and the AKC Application is received, the litter registration must be entered to the PWD Online Litter Entry or mailed to the PWD Litter Administrator for listing in the PWDCA Litter Database. This is in accordance with items 14 and 15 of the Breeder Agreement.
  8. If a member is financially in debt to the PWDCA, that member is not considered to be in good standing and will be removed from the Breeder Referral Program until such time as the debt has been satisfied.
